Noelia Flórez and Natalia Calvo, members of the SALBIS Research Group, have led the organisation of the I ULE–El Bierzo Territory Networking Event, aimed at strengthening knowledge transfer in the field of nutrition. Specifically, the event focused on four strategic sectors for the region of El Bierzo: honey, olives, grapes and Reineta apples.
The event was attended by companies from the grape sector, including Bodegas y Viñedos Gancedo, Bodegas y Viñedos Godelia, Vinos Cariñosos–Bierzo, representation of Prada a Tope, and the president of the Designation of Origin. The olive sector was represented by La Heredera, Aceites A6 and Olibier. From the honey sector, the event was attended by the president of the Sociedad Cooperativa Apícola del Bierzo, and
from the Reineta apple sector by the president of Alimentos de Calidad del Bierzo.
During the meeting, several lines of work were addressed concerning the sustainable use of agri-food products and waste for the development of health-related applications. In this context, Noelia Flórez presented several research projects, including one related to an olive by-product with antimicrobial potential, which has led to an international patent.
The organisers highlighted the intention for this initiative to continue in the future and underlined the importance of turning the Ponferrada Campus into a benchmark for knowledge transfer, placing university research at the service of local companies and the territorial development of El Bierzo, thereby strengthening the synergy between science, business and the region.
