Recognition for Innovation: Noelia Flórez-Fernández receives the Diario de León INNOVADOR award
Our colleague Noelia Flórez-Fernández, Ramón y Cajal researcher and member of the SALBIS Research Group at the University of León, has been recognized with the Diario de León INNOVADOR Award, a distinction that acknowledges her research career and her contribution to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions.
Following an extensive research career developed at different national and international institutions, her incorporation into the University of León, at the Ponferrada Campus, has enabled the development of new research lines closely linked to the resources and needs of the local area. Among them, particular attention is given to the valorization of by-products generated by sectors of relevance to El Bierzo, including those derived from the wine industry and other agri-food and natural resources from the region.
This work is framed within the principles of the circular economy and bioeconomy, with the aim of transforming materials traditionally regarded as waste into new sources of bioactive compounds and value-added products, generating new valorization opportunities and contributing to research with scientific, technological and social impact.
This recognition provides further momentum to continue advancing research closely connected to the territory and focused on generating knowledge and sustainable solutions.
