SALBIS participates in Pint of Science Ponferrada with an outreach talk on pelvic floor health
Last May 18, Raquel Leirós, member of the SALBIS research group, participated in a new edition of the international science outreach festival Pint of Science, held in Ponferrada, with a talk focused on pelvic floor health and the need to raise awareness about health conditions that are often overlooked or silenced.
The activity took place at Coherencia EcoBar, one of the venues hosting the different scientific activities organized throughout the province. Under the title “The Holes We Have”, the talk addressed, from a close, rigorous, and accessible perspective, different aspects related to the pelvic floor, its functions, and the most common disorders that may affect both women and men throughout life.
During the session, topics such as urinary incontinence, constipation, and the effects of aging on pelvic floor health were discussed. The talk also highlighted the importance of breaking taboos and promoting greater health literacy regarding an anatomical region that continues to be surrounded by misinformation and social stigma.
The session generated considerable interest among attendees, creating a space for dialogue and participation in which doubts, experiences, and beliefs related to this area of health were openly discussed.
SALBIS’s participation in initiatives such as Pint of Science reinforces the group’s commitment to transferring scientific knowledge to society by promoting accessible, evidence-based outreach aimed at improving people’s health and quality of life.
Pint of Science is an international festival whose aim is to bring science closer to the general public through informal events held in bars and cafés, allowing researchers to share their work in a relaxed and participatory environment.
