We are currently living with the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes the well-known COVID19 disease. It is completely undeniable<\/strong> that this virus is still with us and that we must maintain the necessary hygiene measures to prevent the spread of the virus from causing a health emergency situation, such as the one we are already experiencing during the months of March and April.<\/p>\n

However, some media seem to talk about data, without putting it into context, treating the figures in absolute values and even going so far as to compare the current infection figures with those we had during the months of March and April. This is a mistake, since many factors have changed since then: PCRs are not performed with the same criteria, we have more information about the virus and it is more interesting to analyze hospitalizations, ICUs and the duration of them to really assess whether we are approaching a health collapse, or not.<\/p>\n

From SALBIS research group, our partner Jos\u00e9 Alberto Ben\u00edtez Andrades<\/a> is providing different analysis since the beginning of the pandemic<\/a>. In the last few days there has been a demonstration of denialists (of which we are totally against), but there have also been some statements from a doctor working at the El Escorial Hospital that seem to have caused some controversy among the population. For all these reasons, Jos\u00e9 Alberto has left us a recent analysis of the figures of hospitalised people, putting them in the best possible context and being neutral in his judgements.
