Pilar Marqués, the keynote speaker at the Espíritu Santo School’s patron saint’s day celebrations, spoke about her passion for a career in science.
The SALBIS Research Group featured prominently at the patron saint’s day celebrations at the Espíritu Santo School in Ponferrada. The keynote speaker, Pilar Marqués, who is also the head researcher at SALBIS, addressed more than 200 children and young people, speaking about her passion for science. In her message, she emphasised the importance of hard work, daily improvement, curiosity and creativity.
During her speech, she thanked each of the nuns and teachers who had influenced her career in one way or another. She also spoke of her moments of rebellion and the consequences. In this regard, she shared with the audience that bravery always teaches us: when we make mistakes, to pick ourselves up; and when we achieve success, to enjoy and share it.
Creating science is very rewarding because we identify what others need and offer solutions to improve people’s well-being. Is there anything greater than that?
Marqués set the young people a task: Bravery and responsibility.
